Tyndale: The Man Who Gave God an English Voice

Tyndale: The Man Who Gave God an English Voice
by David Teems

“I am the light of the world”
“For the just shall live by faith”
“A man after God's own heart”
“The glory of the Lord”

These are familiar phrases to us, and when we hear them our minds probably travel to the well-known King James Version of the Bible. But these words were actually penned by William Tyndale and first appeared in his New Testament, published in 1526. Known as a “heretic” in his home country of England for his writings, Tyndale was passionate about translating the Bible into English, so that even the “plowboy” could read the Scriptures in his own language. But the Catholic Church was the supreme authority in England, and any religious writings in English were strictly forbidden. For most of his life, Tyndale was on the run, writing and publishing in secrecy to avoid imprisonment. He accomplished his goal, but eventually was captured and put to death for his beliefs and his work.

David Teems has written a compelling and very informative history of William Tyndale, especially when you consider how little is actually known about the translator himself. Looking to Tyndale's writings for inspiration as well as examining contemporaries of Tyndale, such as Luther, King Henry VIII, Thomas More, and Cardinal Wolsey, Mr. Teems gives us a glimpse into the life of this man of God. Reading this book has caused me to think about the price that has been paid so that we can read the Bible and worship freely. I would highly recommend this book to my family and friends.

Sweet Little Sarah Words

Sarah has really started talking alot in the past few weeks. Her little voice is so sweet and some of her words just make me smile......
     "hoggie" = froggie
     "hitty" = pretty
     "otter" = water
"titty tat" = kitty cat
     "clubber me up" = cover me up
     one of Sarah's favorite phrases = "all by myself!"
Sarah sees a picture of Dan - "That my Daddy. My Daddy LOVE me!"

Christmas Eve

We celebrated Christmas as a family today since we'll be spending time at church and with friends tomorrow.
An amazing sunrise this morning.

Earlier this summer, Dan and I sanded down and repainted bunkbeds
that were mine when I was little for the girls.

The girls were pretty excited to have new beds for their dolls!
And it's little Daniel's first Christmas!
(He looks a little scared on this picture, but he's actually pretty happy!)

We taught the girls how to play Jenga and Uno today.  They loved it, and
actually did alot better than we thought they would!

While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night.....

Last night we all dressed up like shepherds and had our supper around a "campfire" of candles, outside a tent, while we watched our stuffed sheep. :)  After we finished eating Hannah became the angel that appeared to the shepherds and we all hurried off to find baby Jesus (Daniel)!  The girls had a great time!

The Little Happy Boy!

Sweet little Daniel is growing and growing, and he is SUCH a happy baby! We get lots of smiles and giggles from him these days! He is so pleasant and content, and is such fun to have in our family!

The Big Bed Switch

A few weeks ago, we did a big bed switch with the little ones......
Hannah went from the toddler bed to a big bed....

Sarah went from her crib to the toddler bed........

and Daniel moved from the pack & play pen to the crib.

The first little while, Sarah had a little trouble with her new-found freedom, but the last few nights, she has done a great job of staying in her new bed! :)

Little bit of snow

Compared to last year, we have had very little snow so far this winter.  I suppose that's a good thing, considering that we got about 110 inches last year!! But Hannah's a little disappointed that we can't build a snow fort.......maybe in a few weeks. :)

Grammy and Pappy are Here!

We are so happy to have Dan's parents here with us for a week, and we are having such a good time with them. They are really enjoying being with the girls and Daniel.

Three Generations!

Daniel got so comfy on Pappy's lap that he just fell asleep.
Pappy really enjoyed that. :)
